Flock Rosé is available again. This wine is the result of a small-batch collaboration between my good mate Stuart Proud from Alkimi Wines and me. We handpicked the fruit, whole-bunch pressed it, and fermented it in a mix of stainless steel and seasoned oak to create a dry, elegant rosé with a provincial feel. After fermentation, the wine rested on its lees for six months, adding texture, finesse, and a beautiful, understated complexity.
Expect fresh red berries, a hint of citrus, and a fine savoury line. It’s a crisp, graceful Yarra Valley rosé made for long lunches, warm evenings, and anyone who appreciates a thoughtfully crafted wine.
The Backstory
Flock Rosé started from a pretty simple idea. After importing Hampton Water Rosé for a few years (yes, Jon Bon Jovi’s rosé!), I decided it was time to stop looking overseas and focus on the region I love most: the Yarra Valley. Creating a locally made, locally sourced rosé felt like the right next step in my journey.
Stuart; founder of Alkimi and a close friend, was the first person I spoke to. He didn’t hesitate when I suggested working together. If you don’t know Stu, his background is impressive: he’s worked across Europe and at some of Australia’s top wineries, including Henschke, Yarra Yering, Oakridge, and Mac Forbes. His whole philosophy is about wild ferments, minimal inputs, and letting the vineyard do the talking.
Together, we set out to make a rosé that captured a provincial style while staying true to the Yarra Valley.
We handpicked the grapes, whole-bunch pressed them, and Stu handled the ferment in stainless steel and old oak. Once the fermentation wrapped up, he let the wine sit on lees for six months to build texture and character. As a humble carpenter-turned-wine-guy, I left the winemaking to Stu—he knows exactly when to work the grapes and when to simply let nature take over.
My job was everything outside the winery: the label, the story, and bringing the wine to life. Flock is inspired by my love of flamingos and, let’s be honest, my fairly flamboyant personality. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know what I mean.
The finishing touches matter to me, so we used a foil label instead of paper, matched the capsule colour, and added a personal story to the back to blend Stu’s craftsmanship with my personality. Flock is as much a reflection of our friendship as it is of the wine itself.
I’d love you to join the Flock, support local winemaking, and enjoy a bottle of what I truly believe is one of the Yarra Valley’s finest rosés.
